The duo

äbädä is the duo of Eda Er — voice, electronics — and Simon Sieger — trombone, tuba, piano.

They work without scores. Every piece begins as an improvisation between two people in one room and stays that way: nothing is quantised onto a grid, nothing is layered until one of them disappears. Both players are audible at all times.

The instruments are only half of it. Objects, breath, the wood of the piano, the metal of the trombone, the small resonances a recording would usually edit out — these carry as much of the music as the notes do.

What comes out sits between chamber music, free improvisation and musique concrète without settling into any of the three. The records are mixed in quadraphonic: the two players turn slowly in opposite directions through the room, and neither is ever fully absent from any corner of it.

The duo is based in France.

Unclassifiable Weather

2026nyxphereSix pieces35:07

Six improvisations that move like unstable weather systems: sudden pressure changes, lyric fragments, noise storms, fragile melodic air, percussive objects. Not a fusion of genres — a climate in which genres appear briefly and disappear.

Recorded for piano, voice and objects, with no drone underneath and nowhere to hide. The concrete palette is drawn from the body: breath, whisper, mouth click, footstep, a heartbeat that slows across the last track. An A minor centre runs the length of it.

Entre Deux Rivages

2021nyxphereSeven pieces38:44

Seven pieces written across a closed border. Separated by countries and composing in correspondence, each track went out as a letter and came back shaped by the other's voice.

Mistral came out of Marseille's gusts and a city locked indoors. Toi d'un autre rivage out of the two shores of Istanbul. Curfew Dance out of the night the curfews were announced in France. The record is the debut, and it is still the clearest statement of what the duo is for: sound as correspondence, absence as dialogue.

In progress

Two further records are finished and waiting: Marseille 2019, eight chamber improvisations held in a C minor field, and Things That Listen, six pieces for percussion, objects, voice and electronics built around the way an object keeps ringing after you stop touching it.
